Vampires go to Banff

The Vampires have been selected to attend the prestigious Banff International Workshop in Jazz and Creative Music in Canada. The workshop runs for three weeks in May 2011 and is under the directorship of trumpeter and composer Dave Douglas.

Nick Garbett in National Jazz Awards

The Vampires trumpeter Nick Garbett placed third in the National Jazz Awards over the Oct 30-31 weekend in Wangaratta. Nick plays with The Vampires, The Strides, Watussi and many other groups and is one of Wollongong's finest musicians. Eamon McNelis came first, Matt Jodrell second, and they were judged by Phil Slater, James Greening and Mike Nock. Congratulations Nick!

Cockatoo Calling

The Vampires will be appearing at a special performance on Cockatoo Island on Saturday 27th November from 5-7pm. We will be performing for a one of special gig with our Melbourne trombonist Shannon Barnett. Read on for more info, and visit the links.

Coming soon from 13 November to 4th December is a four week performance season of free performances on Cockatoo Island featuring the music of the Java Quartet, Kristin Berardi and James Sherlock, The Scrapes, Hinterlandt, the Vampires, and My Goodness McGuiness.

Enjoy the unique beauty of Sydney harbour from the moment you jump on board the ferry. Once on the island you can hear some of Sydney's finest musicians perform in informal outdoor settings with a harbour backdrop.

As the sun fades away listen to the mellow sounds, mixed up with some jazz, reggae infused grooves or beats from Bobby Singh, master tabla player or soaring soundscapes that take you on your own personal voyage.

Performances start at 5pm and you can grab a beer or a wine from the kiosk Bring a picnic rug, or low chairs and get up close and personal. Spend the day on the island for a “mini break” on Cockatoo island.

The site is family friendly and we are on the flat and close to the ferry terminal.
